Jacques Magnan, France

Jacques Paul Yves Magnan is professor emeritus from the ORL Head & Neck Surgery Department, Hôpital NORD and Université Aix-Marseille in Marseille, France, where he served as head of department for more than two decades. He is one of a few founding members of EAONO and has played a huge role within the fields of otology and neurotology throughout his career, in Europe and worldwide. Middle ear and skull base surgery has been his specific areas of ekspertise, in which he introduced the use of endoscopy at a very early stage. He was one of the first surgeons worldwide to employ innovative neuromonitoring of the cochlear and the facial nerve during vestibular neurectomy, vascular decompression and vestibular schwannoma surgery, by the use of monitoring electrodes placed directly on the brainstem during retrosigmoid surgery. He has published a vast number of papers and books on vertigo, cholesteatoma and otoneurosurgery. The list of his achievements is full of initiatives and includes a number of executive positions:

  • Founder and President LIONS (Live International Otolaryngology Network) 2006-2010
  • Chairman European Academy ORL-HNS Nice 27-30 April 2013
  • President of Mediterranean Society of Audiology and Otology 2012-2014
  • Honorary President of European Academy of Otology and Neurotology 2016
  • Honorary president of Politzer Society 2018
